There is no opposite of wholeness. All opposites play out within wholeness. The equal/opposite duality between enlightenment and repression is promoted by the self in denial of its limitations. Hearing statements like, We are oneness, We are god, and. We already are wholeness whether we know it or not causes conflict because we know we are not that. Although we may want to be whole, we don’t feel it. We don’t live it. We’ve heard that there is a totality to us that we are not experiencing and that hurts. It offends our sense of control and privilege. It also strikes a deep and hidden chord of fear that there could be higher entities, people, and therefore, possibly, predators. Our superimposing the food chain on the mental/spiritual hierarchy (or creating said hierarchy using the food chain template), along with the assumption that wholeness exists as the ultimate goal atop that hierarchy, is a buried problem which never gets talked about.
When we are hurting inside. we often pretend to be okay by emulating wholeness. Where does that compulsion to put on a happy face come from? From what knowledge base does one draw to build the character of blissed-out smiley person?
Instruction from guru types is the obvious go-to answer, but many draw from the tiny flicker of light they’re blocking out in the back of their minds. They pervert the ever-present call to understand Truth into a persona and that persona becomes them.
In pretending to be whole, we draw on wholeness, which is usually see-through to everyone around us not doing that. Unfortunately, when they encounter the real thing, they might mistake such a person for the pretender, although usually there’s something about people living Truth, some deeper connection than joy, on the face and a soft, friendly voice that tells us they are authentic. Then again, deep authenticity can also be emulated by charismatic leaders putting on their own act.
Herein lies the lesson: we cannot tell if one talking the talk is walking the walk—is pure or perverted—with 100% accuracy. For Truth to speak and not be perverted, Truth must speak wholly through-and-as each of us, not be translated by us. Anything less than Truth unencumbered might just be tie-dye fractals and dilated eyes breathing in the good and breathing out the fake Good News.
